Legendary England seamer James Anderson has credited his partner-in-crime Stuart Broad for chipping in with advice that helped the Lancashire cricketer claim 2-in-2 on the opening day of the 2nd Test against the Proteas.

Anderson went bang bang after the Lunch break as he trapped the South African spin duo of Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj to leave the visitors reeling at 92-7.

However, the seeds for it were sown when Harmer dished out a forward defensive block to Anderson. Broad then went up to his senior partner and urged him to play the double bluff i.e set the field for a bouncer but bowl a fuller delivery.

Anderson did exactly that and ended up trapping both Harmer and Maharaj plumb in front of the wicket.

Here's what James Anderson told reporters:

"So, the ball before he actually lunged at me and got a good stride in. Stuart said, put your square-leg back and make him think you're going to bounce him and then bowl the same [full] ball," as quoted by The Cricketer.

"Then his stride was much smaller and he was stuck on the crease. It's good that he suggested it. I was thinking about the game and the field positioning. It's nice when something like that comes off."

All of a sudden James Anderson found himself on a hat-trick

Broad, who has taken two Test hat-tricks in his career, once again went up to the 40-year-old and urged him to bowl full and straight.

However, this time, Anderson couldn't get his radar right. By his own admission, he got a bit greedy in search of pace.

The double-strike from Anderson was followed by Broad removing Kyle Verreynne with a peach of a delivery; one that straightened after pitching to force a nick from the Proteas keeper.

Broad and Anderson finished with three wickets each, ensuring South Africa were eventually bowled out for 151.
