As we enter the business end of the 2023 World Cup, the discussion regarding the semifinal candidates is intensified. While India have already made it into the semifinal, South Africa and Australia are on the verge of entering the knockouts. However, a cut-throat competition is going on between New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan for the fourth slot in the semifinal race. 

New Zealand are placed fourth with eight points under their name, while Pakistan have to win their last league-stage game against England to stay alive in the competition. However, if New Zealand lose and Pakistan win their respective last games, the latter will face India in the first semifinal. 

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has predicted Pakistan will reach the World Cup semifinal. 

As quoted by India Today, Kaif stated that Pakistan could defeat England and reach the semifinal. However, he also predicted that India would secure a one-sided victory if these two teams meet in the all-important face-off. 

"They can reach but it will be a one-sided affair. I am opening the pages of history, what has happened. India have defeated them easily. However, Pakistan have the chance. If they play a good match and defeat England, the net-run-rate issue will be there, so they can reach there with a big win," said Kaif.

Pakistan will face England in their final World Cup league match at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 11.
