In a historic feat that probably a billion generations will remember, former India captain Virat Kohli recently achieved a remarkable feat by scoring his 50th ODI century, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. However, former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal believes that another batsman, Babar Azam, has the potential to break Kohli's record.

Akmal expressed his confidence in Azam's ability, stating, “Vo (record) top-3 waale he tod sakte hai 50 hundred ka. Middle-order batsman nahi tod payega. Hamare paas Babar (Azam) hai vo kar sakta hai. Top-3 mein khelta hai. Unke paas abhi (Shubman) Gill hai, vo peeche lag sakta hai is record ke.”

Highlighting the competition within the top order, Akmal mentioned the presence of young talent like Shubman Gill, who could potentially challenge the record. While Kohli's achievement is unprecedented, Akmal's optimism suggests that the cricketing world may witness a new record holder in the form of Babar Azam.

Throughout the current World Cup, Babar Azam has amassed 320 runs in 9 matches, while Shubman Gill has scored 350 runs in 8 matches, showcasing a remarkable performance in 2023. In ODIs, Gill's overall tally stands at 1580 runs in 28 matches, including 5 centuries this year. With a career spanning 43 matches, Gill has impressively secured 6 centuries.

Conversely, Babar Azam, with an ODI career of 117 matches, has already notched up 19 centuries. The question now lingers: can Gill and Babar surpass Virat Kohli's record of 50 ODI centuries? Only time will unveil the answer to this intriguing cricketing conundrum.

As the debate on records and milestones continues, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await to see if Babar Azam can indeed follow in the footsteps of Kohli and etch his name in the history books by reaching the coveted milestone of 50 ODI centuries.
