'We Will Score 350 In Chennai..'- SA Captain Temba Bavuma Warns Pakistan

Ahead of the high-voltage World Cup 2023 face-off with Pakistan at Chepauk on October 27, South African skipper Temba Bavuma has hinted that the Proteas aim to post a score in excess of 350 runs if the situation allows.

Bavuma's Proteas signal intent for record Chepauk performance

The Proteas have been in red-hot form in the tournament, surpassing the 350-run mark in their last two matches. Their brilliance with the bat was evident in their commanding victory against Bangladesh on October 24, where they piled up 382/5 and won the game by 149 runs.

This was followed by another dominating performance against England, where they amassed a massive 399-7, handing the English side a record defeat of 229 runs.

Their opening match in the tournament also saw them in sublime form, churning out 428 runs against Sri Lanka. The South African team wants to break yet another record as they gear up to face Pakistan at the Chepauk.

To date, no team has managed to score over 300 runs in a World Cup match at this venue. The previous best at Chepauk was Australia's 289 for four against New Zealand in the 1996 World Cup.

However, Bavuma's confidence in his squad remains unshaken. He believes that the team's success lies in their ability to assess the match conditions and adapt their skills accordingly.

"So, I think what we've done well is there's that process within our batting of assessing the conditions, looking at what we need from a skill and option point of view to be successful, and that's what we've done well,” said Bavuma.

Expressing this sentiment, Bavuma stated that the strategy in Chennai wouldn't differ.

He added that the team will scrutinise the pitch conditions, develop a gameplay plan, and aim to surpass the 350-run milestone if the circumstances are right. If not, they're determined to give their best performance based on the situation at hand.

"So, I think the process in itself, batting here in Chennai, that's not going to change. We'll assess the wicket and, I guess, come up with options as to how we can be successful. And if the opportunity is there for us to score 350, we'll do so. If not, we'll make sure we play what's happening in front of us as best as we can," added the Proteas skipper.
