Australia will take on Zimbabwe in the third ODI of the three-match series at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville on Friday (September 3rd).
The host will come into this match with an unassailable 2-0 lead, following the eight wicket win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI on Wednesday (August 31st).
It was Zimbabwe’s first bilateral ODI series in Australia and the Australian bowling attack dismantled the Regis Chakabva-led side completely in the first two ODIs.
The visitors started the first ODI well, with their top three getting amongst the runs early on. But the rest of the team failed to carry on the momentum and Australia went on to chase the small target easily to go one up in the series.
Coming into the second ODI, Zimbabwe were expected to do better with the bat in the second ODI, after a good batting effort from their top three in the initial part of the opening game. But it rather turned out to be a horror show with the bat and the Aussies pulled the visitors apart for just 96 in the first innings. In a relatively easy chase, the Aussies chased the 97 run target within 15 overs and sealed the three-match series with one game remaining.
With the series already in the pocket, the hosts would like to make some changes in their eleven. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will be playing the third ODI to make an upset and end the series on a high.
