The belligerent speedster, Lockie Ferguson is confident in his abilities to help New Zealand prevail during his third Tour to Australia.

The forthcoming ODI series between Trans-Transman nations will take place from 6 to 11 September in Cairns.

The first two tours for Ferguson in 2016 and 2020 have been forgettable, with no major contributions to the team.

The 2016 tour witnessed him making his ODI debut and leaking 73 runs off nine overs, with a solitary wicket.

Recently, the 31-year-old returned as the most expensive bowler with an economy of 7.50 in the 50-over series against the West Indies.

However, Ferguson believes starting off well in the first fixture will be critical to his confidence, and also the team's chances to secure a series victory.

"Hopefully the first game goes better than my debut and I manage to bowl all ten overs," Ferguson said. "It's nice memories. I think back to how nervous and excited I was to play against Australia, the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. It's another opportunity to try and get the trophy overseas."

Critical series for Australia

Currently, New Zealand are in the fourth position of the Super League Table with 11 wins in 12 matches.

On the flipside, the Aussie team mark their presence in the seventh position with nine victories in 15 games. The shocking loss to Zimbabwe on Saturday have hurt their chances to get ahead of the Afghanistan team on the table.

With only six ODI matches left in their 2020-23 cycle, it will be important for them to amass as many victories as possible to be among the top eight teams.

These eight teams will qualify for the 2023 World Cup, while other five teams will have to play the Qualifiers.
