The Board of Control for Cricket in India has confirmed that former Indian international VVS Laxman is all set to coach the national team during the Asia Cup 2022 which begins later this month.

The former Indian batter will replace Rahul Dravid, who will miss the trip to UAE after testing positive for Covid-19.

Dravid will not travel with the Indian side to UAE and his absence will come as a major blow for the Men in Blue.

India are undoubtedly one of the favourites to win the competition and the absence of their usual head coach could jeopardise their preparations just a few days ahead of the tournament.

So far, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have been confirmed as the entrants into the tournament and another side will join them in the Asia Cup 2022 following the conclusion of the qualifiers.

Laxman recently travelled with the Indian side to Zimbabwe for the ODI tour and he has now joined up with the rest of the contingent in Dubai along with vice-captain KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and Avesh Khan, who travelled from Harare.
