Team India bowlers bowled out Pakistan for just 147 in their Asia Cup 2022 opener at Dubai. Later, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya guided the ‘Men in Blue’ to a thrilling five-wicket victory in the final over of the run-chase.

Following the defeat, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has urged his fellow countrymen to improve their batting skills against quality short-pitched bowling.

In an interview with GNN, Salman Butt claimed that several batters within the Pakistan line-up struggled with short balls against the Indians. He also brought up past instances of Pakistan’s struggles against the short-pitch bowling, including their tour to New Zealand and the defeat to West Indies at the 2019 World Cup.

“Pakistan lost all of their first five wickets to bouncers. The case is the same since 2019. They faced issues (short ball) on the tour of New Zealand and they faced the same problem in Australia. Even in the 2019 World Cup, West Indies dismissed Pakistan batters through bouncer”.

He added that Babar Azam and co. need to improve their skills, considering the T20I World Cup this year is set to be played in Australia, where grounds are big and pitches are fast.

“The T20 World Cup is in Australia, where the grounds are big and pitches are fast. So, it’s necessary for Pakistan batters to start their preparations of facing short balls.”

Pakistan will now face Hong Kong in a must-win game on September 2. The match will be played in Sharjah and will cap their Group A campaign of the tournament.
