Nat Sciver has stepped down as the skipper of the Trent Rockets in the on-going Women’s Hundred 2022, in order to focus on her own game. In place of Sciver, Elyse Villani was named as captain ahead of the game against Welsh Fire on August 29.

Sciver led the Rockets to two wins in five games before taking the decision. In those matches, she amassed 151 runs at a strike rate of 105.59. This includes an unbeaten half-century against Oval Invincibles and an unbeaten 42 against London Spirit. Sciver the bowler, though, has not been at her best, having picked only three wickets and bowled at an expensive economy of 10.25.

Sciver was also at the helm of the England team at the recent Commonwealth Games after full-time skipper Heather Knight was ruled out with a hip injury. The all-rounder scored 104 runs and took three wickets in the tournament.

"I feel like I am in a pretty good rhythm with it and felt very calm in the first few games," Sciver had said of her captaincy duty in the press conference during the CWG.

"I am very happy with how that is going and to take on the leadership role, it has been fun. In general, I like to hopefully give my players confidence and just get them to want to do well for me,” she added.

Sciver has had an illustrious career

The first female cricketer for England to take a hat-trick in a Women's Twenty20 International match, Sciver made her international debut in 2013. In the longest format of the game, Sciver has 512 runs from eight games at an average of 47.67. This includes a century and two fifties. She has also picked up 10 wickets in the format.

In 91 ODIs, the all-rounder has 2829 runs at an average of 42.22, along with 63 wickets. In the shortest format, Sciver has played 99 games, averaging 25.10 with the bat and also picking up 76 wickets.
