English all-rounder Bryony Smith is currently representing Trent Rockets in the Women’s Hundred competition. In her most recent appearance for the side, she struck twice in her 15-ball spell to hand an eight-wicket defeat to Welsh Fire.

Earlier this month, she scored a rapid 63 and picked up a wicket in her match-winning all-round effort against London Spirit. Notably, the match was played in front of over 10,000 spectators, a record for any women’s fixture at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge.

Bryony Smith says The Hundred bridges gap with international cricket

Smith believes that The Hundred is helping youngsters who are looking to make an impact in international cricket. The 24-year-old added that the competition bridges the gap with top-level matches, since the youngsters in it get to play alongside some of the best players and in front of ever-increasing crowds.

“We’re seeing now over the last couple of years that, if you perform at the level of The Hundred, you can bridge the gap and go on to do well for your country.”

In Trent Rockets, Smith is accompanied by seasoned international stars Elyse Villani and Nat Sciver. She said that their presence in the side was one of the reasons she wanted to join the Rockets.

“One of the reasons I wanted to come to the Rockets was some of the names I’d be playing alongside. You can pick their brains about things like preparation, recovery, and what they do off the pitch to make sure they’re mentally prepared to perform during games. I’m always keen to learn about things like that.”

Trent Rockets recently finished their group stage campaign with a win against Welsh Fire. As of now, they are placed at number three on the points table with three wins out of their six games. They will now have to wait for outcomes of the remaining games before finding out their fate for the knockout stages of the tournament.
