Moeen Ali, the star English all-rounder has been fined by ICC for his illegal action of using a drying agent to dry his hands during the second day of the first Ashes Test between England and Australia. He will be fined 25 percent of his Test match fee after he was found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

Also, this was Moeen Ali's first offence in last 24 months and one demerit point has been added to Moeen's disciplinary record for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. More specifically, Moeen Ali has breached Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel and according to it, Moeen is found displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.

The incident happened in the 89th over of day 2 of the first Ashes Test 2023. Moeen Ali also has accepted the offence and fined proposed by match referee, Andy Pycroft.

The match referee was also satisfied that the cream was used only for drying hands and not for changing the condition of the ball. If the condition of the ball is changed then it would have been a breach of clause 41.3 of the ICC playing conditions - Unfair Play - The Match Ball - Changing its Condition.

Moeen Ali has come out of his Test retirement to play in Ashes 2023 and picked two wickets on Day 2 of a Test match while he could not make much of an impact in the first innings with the bat.
