Punjab Kings have been playing good cricket in IPL 2025, and are in with a real chance to make it to the playoffs. A win against LSG would take them to 15 points on the table, and it would be a big step towards a playoff berth. However, they have been hit by two early blows in the powerplay, and both of them have come courtesy of Akash Singh.
Ex-U19 Star Gets New Life In IPL With LSG Debut
Akash Singh was part of India's U19 team of 2020 World Cup, and has played in IPL before for CSK and RR. He was also part of the SRH squad, and was bought for 30 Lakhs in the IPL 2025 mega auction by LSG. This was his base price in the auction, and the game against PBKS is his first game of the 2025 season.
Akash Singh is a left-arm pacer and made his debut in the 2021 season for Rajasthan Royals. He played only one game in that season, and then went onto play six matches for CSK in their title winning campaign in 2023. He bagged five wickets that season, but did not get a chance in the 2024 edition, and now would be hoping to continue the good start he has got on his LSG debut.
Interestingly, Rishabh Pant completed all four overs of Akash Singh in the opening spell itself, and he ended giving just 30 runs with two wickets in his kitty. In SMAT 2024, Akash Singh picked four wickets in five innings with an economy rate of 9.60 and strike-rate of 22 and is one of the emerging talents in Indian cricket.
