In a high-voltage finish to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 league stage, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pulled off a dramatic victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to book their place in Qualifier 1.
After this win RCB are back in the IPL playoffs for the 10th time in franchise history, this time they will face Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 on Thursday. Despite being one of the league’s most followed sides, RCB remain without an IPL trophy.
While Virat Kohli and Phil Salt got RCB off to a steady start, it was Jitesh Sharma who emerged as the hero of the night. The wicketkeeper-batter played a breathtaking knock in the middle order and made 85 runs off 33 balls.
Punjab Kings, who have been dominant throughout the season, retained the top position in the league. The other two teams making the playoffs are Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans who will now face off in the Eliminator.
RCB's Playoff Performance Overview
RCB have played 15 IPL playoff matches, winning just 5 and losing 10, making them one of the unluckiest teams when it comes to post-season performance. They have reached the final on three occasions in 2009, 2011, and 2016- but failed to cross the finish line each time.
Their most recent final was in 2016, where despite a valiant chase, they fell short by 8 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, who claimed their maiden title that year.
