Rohit Sharma has decided to end his Test career amidst rumours of him being sacked as the captain. The Indian management now will be looking for a new leader for the next Test championship cycle. Besides the immediate need for a leader, India will seach for options who could lead the team for a long time -

3. Shubman Gill

The Indian batter has been consistent presence in the Indian team. At only 25 years old, Shubman Gill looks like a long-term investment by the Indian management as far as the longest format of the game is concerned. His young age could be a benefit for the Indian team shaping the unit for the future.

Despite his young age, Gill has the experience of leading an IPL team and that could help him in this venture. Besides leading GT in IPL, Gill has also been in charge of the national team in T20I format. So, he has the experience of leading a team, the only thing is that he needs to find a bit more consistency as a batter in Test cricket to be a long term option for the team.

2. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant aged 27 years has already established himself as one of the biggest match-winners for India in the longest format of the game. Much like Shubman Gill, Pant has the experience of leading a team at the highest level and could be a good option.

Rishabh Pant as a captain can bring in a unique skills set on the table. Pant has often been heard on the stump mic inspiring his team mates even in the worst of conditions in a game. As a captain, Pant's vocal tonic from behind the stumps could be a positive influence on the team.

1. Jasprit Bumrah

The most probable contender as a Test Captain for India seems to be their ace Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. There is no questioning him as a leader as the only Test India won in the latest Border Gavaskar Trophy was under his leadership.

Besides having already proven his mettle as a leader, Bumrah has often displayed his strategic brilliance bringing India back into games which were nearly lost. As a cricketer, Bumrah appears to be a master tactician and possess a thinking mind. Workload management being the only factor that India need to think about before putting the ace pacer as the leader of the Indian team in red-ball cricket.
