In the recent developments, the Indian selectors have decided to remove Rohit Sharma from Test captaincy. The management will decide India's new leader in the red-ball format for the England tour soon. It is not yet clear whether, Rohit Sharma will travel to England during the upcoming tour. As reported by Indian Express, BCCI is expected to back the selectors's decision.

"The national selectors have decided to remove Rohit Sharma as captain of India’s Test team, and go with a new leader for the tour of England that starts next month" - The Report Read.

Indian Management Looking For New Leader In Test Cricket

As the report suggests, it is not a step to renovate the Indian Test team with new players. Rather, the decision has been taken keeping in the form and the performances of Rohit Sharma in red ball cricket. Rohit Sharma will continue to be in the managements plans for ODIs.

Notably, India had recently won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. Reports after the win were that the Board is excited to see Rohit leading the team in the England tour.

Step Taken Keeping In Mind Rohit's Recent Performances

It is understood that the decision has been taken after seeing the lack of stability in India's top order during the Australia tour. Rohit struggled during the tour and averaged just 6.20 in five innings and it was even witnessed the Indian skipper dropping himself for the last Test. Talking about latest performances, Rohit was seen struggling even during the New Zealand series at home.

Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, India have played 24 Test matches. 12 of these games were won by India, while they lost three and drew 3 matches.
