ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been full of runs, with teams hitting totals of 400 and 350 for fun. The batters are enjoying the conditions presented in India for the global event, however, those who have struggled for runs are really struggling for them.
Some captains - such as Rohit Sharma, Kusal Mendis and Scott Edwards - have been leading their sides from the front, but for the rest of the captains, this World Cup is heading as a bad never-ending dream.
Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, who ended the last edition of the tournament as the fourth-highest run-getter, is feeling the heat of the captain's hat. The Bangla skipper has the worst average as captain in the pinnacle tournament.
After four innings, the veteran all-rounder has notched merely 56 runs at an embarrassing average of 14.00, coupling it with six wickets at an economy rate of 5.54.

The next on the list are South Africa's Temba Bavuma, Australia's Pat Cummins and the English captain Jos Buttler with averages of 19.67, 21.50 and 21.75 respectively. Babar Azam, who scored 74 but in a losing cause against Afghanistan, is the fourth on the list with 31.40 after five innings.
Whereas, the Indian wrecker-in-chief, Rohit Sharma, is heading the list among the ten captains with a stupendous average of 62.20 after 5 innings. Sharma, who is the third highest run-scorer in the competition, has slammed 311 runs with a handsome strike of 133.48, slamming century and a fifty already in this World Cup.
Following Sharma are Hashmatullah Shahidi (42), Tom Latham (42), Scott Edwards (41.33) and Dasun Shanaka (40).
