As per emerging reports, veteran batter Steve Smith will likely miss out on Australia's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Notably, 1st May is the deadline for all teams  to submit their World Cup squad. While New Zealand have already named a robust side for the marquee event, their Trans-Tasman rivals, Australia, might drop Smith heading to the tournament, as reported by Code Sports.

The report also states that the 2021 edition champions might also exclude Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has set the IPL 2024 on fire through his blistering knocks.

Considering his exploits in the tournament, fans and experts expect the Australian management to pick the swashbuckling batter for the World Cup. In five IPL innings, Fraser-McGurk has hammered 247 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 237.50.

On the other hand, Smith's World Cup exclusion shouldn't surprise anybody, given his prolonged rough patch in the shortest format.

So, based on the report, we expect Australia to pick David Warner and in-form Travis Head as their first-choice openers, with skipper Mitchell Marsh slotted at number three.

Glenn Maxwell will be picked as the spin bowling all-rounder alongside the explosive seam bowling all-rounders, Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green.

Josh Inglis, who had a magnificent series against India, will likely travel to the Caribbean as Australia's keeper-batter along with the experienced Matthew Wade. Swashbuckling batter Tim David will be preferred for the finisher's role.

The Australian pace bowling department will comprise three familiar faces- Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood- alongside Nathan Ellis, who is known for his excellence in death overs.

The experienced duo of Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar will spearhead the Aussies' spin bowling department.
