SEC vs PC: Previews
Sunrisers Eastern Cape
After losing three games on the trot, defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape are finally back to winning ways. They won their previous game against Durban Super Giants. A notable effort from the bowling lineup spearheaded by Marco Jansen restricted the Super Giants to a lowly total of 115 runs at the loss of eight wickets.
In the second inning, Bedingham provided a good start of 39 off 20 balls before Jordan Hermann and Aiden Markram added a good partnership to wrap up the chase in 15.2 overs. That being said, the Eastern Cape are finally clicking after a horror start to the season. However, seated in the fourth spot on the table, they still have a long way to go to reach the playoffs.
Pretoria Capitals
Pretoria Capitals, meanwhile slipped to fifth spot on the table with just one victory in 5 games. In the previous clash against Paarl Royals, the Capitals posted a mammoth total of 212 runs. Gurbaz (42), Will Smeed (54) and Verreynne (45) made notable contributions to set up a good total. However, Joe Root made a mockery in the chase with a splendid 92* off 60 balls. With great support from Rubin Hermann (56) and David Miller (48*), the Royals sealed a dominant 8-wicket win.
Needless to say, the Capitals need to go back to the drawing board to fix their bowling woes. The youngsters are not clicking, leaving Jimmy Neesham and Will Jacks stranded without any support from the other end. Moreover, to stay alive in the playoff race, winning the upcoming game is important for the Capitals.
SEC vs PC: Pitch and Weather Report
Weather report
The weather at St George's Park will be pleasant on January 22. The temperature will be around 22°C with a nice cold breeze. Importantly, no rain interruptions are likely during the entire course of the game. Dew could be a factor in the second inning, which might hamper the bowling side’s strategy.
Pitch report
St George's Park in Gqeberha has shown its dual nature as a pitch that offers something for both batters and bowlers. Early in both innings, pacers who can extract movement and hit the deck hard may find success, while batters can take advantage of the track's pace and bounce to accelerate once set.
Spin bowlers might find limited assistance compared to their pace counterparts. Given the conditions and the nature of early-season pitches, the toss-winning captain will likely opt to bowl first to take advantage of any early movement and chase under lights.
