India and England will be squaring off in a series of five T20I matches from Wednesday, January 22 onwards at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. As it turns out, the series will also open doors for several landmarks and unprecedented milestones, with a bunch of players from both sides finding themselves on the brink of rewriting record books.
Here, we take a look at all major T20I landmarks that can be achieved during the course of the series.
Records or landmarks that can be broken during IND vs ENG T20I Series
1. Arshdeep Singh chasing twin milestones:
Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has collected 95 wickets from just 60 T20I innings for Team India. If the speedster adds two more wickets to his tally, he will go past Yuzvendra Chahal (96) to become the most successful Indian bowler in T20I history.
Moreover, Arshdeep Singh is also at the precipice of becoming the quickest fast bowler to get to 100 T20I wickets. With 95 wickets from 60 matches, he will be chasing Haris Rauf’s 71-match feat of getting to the landmark figure. Arshdeep also holds the potential of becoming either the third or fourth quickest bowler overall (including spinners) to get to 100 wickets, depending upon his performance in the series.
2. Jos Buttler To Enter Rare T20I Club
England captain Jos Buttler has hauled 498 runs against India in all T20Is. Upon adding two more runs to his tally, the belligerent top-order batter will become the first Englishman in history, and the fifth overall after the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller and Aaron Finch to complete 500 T20I runs against India.
3. Suryakumar Yadav and Jos Buttler chasing sixes landmark
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and his English counterpart Jos Buttler have both launched 145 and 146 sixes respectively in their T20I careers. If the two cricketers manage to complete 150 sixes during the series, they will become only the fourth and fifth players in T20I history to breach the landmark figure after Rohit Sharma (205), Martin Guptill (173) and Muhammad Waseem (158).
4. Sanju Samson and Phil Salt centuries record
Both Sanju Samson and Phil Salt have hammered three T20I centuries each. If the two wicketkeeper-batters managed to add another century to their name, they will join Suryakumar Yadav (4 tons) to become second-joint highest century-maker in T20I cricket. Two more centuries during the series from any of the two cricketers will help them level up with Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell (5 hundreds) for the all-time record.
