The innings of Travis head in the 3rd T20I was the deciding factor of the game. His innings of 91 from 48 deliveries consisted of 8 fours and 6 sixes. The way he scored his runs did not only give us a glimpse of his aggressive stroke play but also his ability to play the field as well. He capitalised on the short ball really well where he picked the length really well and also timed his cuts and pulls perfectly. The shots played on the good or slightly fuller length were also a treat to watch where he wasn’t afraid of playing shots down the ground.

This approach was required since they were chasing a huge total of 191. There was not a single loose ball in his innings that didn’t get the treatment. The deliveries that were on a half volley were dispatched down the ground or driven through extra covers where he easily found the gap between point and cover region. Some deliveries that were even slightly shorter were dispatched in the mid wicket region with not only immense power but exceptional timing as well.

This boundary pitch map shows us the perfect T20 approach where Head was playing an aggressive nature of cricket with proper planning and great strike rotation. This didn’t only allow him to score runs quicker but also reduced the pressure of his batting partners as well. The way he actually chose to attack both short and full lengths also upset the line and lengths of the South African bowlers who had a terrible day on the field.

Conclusion

Travis Head is one of the best talents in Australia and with innings like these shows a lot of potential. He is one of the players who can plays shots on both sides of the ground.
