Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) would be desperate to make a comeback when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next match on Friday, April 7 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana International Stadium.

However, ahead of this match, the Super Giants' management are facing a major selection headache with the arrival of star South African batter Quinton de Kock and West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers, being in the exceeding form.

Selection Conundrum

Mayers has been in sensational form since the start of the season, scoring 73 (38) and 53 (22) against Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings, respectively, and providing the team with a fiery start in both matches, even though his opening partner KL Rahul struggled to get-going with the bat.

With Kyle Mayers currently in blazing form, it would be a blunder to leave him out of the playing XI. However, it would also be wrong to exclude Quinton de Kock, who recently scored a century from just 44 balls against West Indies and is also in great form, creating a big selection dilemma for the LSG management.

One alternative playing combination could be to open with Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock while shifting KL Rahul to number three. However, considering the excellent track record of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock in the last season, where they scored so many runs together, it may not be wise to break up this opening pair.

Should Marcus Stoinis Be Dropped?

With Marcus Stoinis not having a great start to the tournament and failing to make an impact in the previous season as well, the only option left for LSG may be to drop the Australian all-rounder.

In his place, the team could add three powerful players like KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, and Kyle Mayers to their top order, which would give them a strong batting line-up alongside Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran, both of whom are capable of finishing matches.

If LSG decides to drop Marcus Stoinis, they could consider opening with Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul, and have Kyle Mayers bat at number three. Deepak Hooda could then slot in at number four, where he has a proven track record of scoring runs in the tournament.

A Closer Look At LSG’S Bowling Attack

As for their bowling lineup, Mark Wood, who is the current leading wicket-taker in the tournament, will be the mainstay of the pace attack while Ravi Bishnoi will lead the spin department alongside Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda, and Ayush Badoni.

Yash Thakur made his debut against Chennai Super Kings and showed good composure with his bowling. They are likely to persist with him in their upcoming match given his promising start in the tournament.
