Home-bound Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on a resurgent Delhi Capitals (DC) in match number 34 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Hyderabad, on Monday, April 24.

After winning their first game of the season against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), DC would be looking to continue their winning momentum as they take on SRH in an away fixture. There were plenty of positives to take away from that game. All players contributed leave alone, Prithvi Shaw. It will be very interesting to see if the team management sticks with Shaw or if Phil Salt opens with Warner.

Openers:

David Warner and Prithvi Shaw

Warner, who is second in the Orange Cap race with 285 runs from 6 matches at an average of 47.50, top-scored for his team in the last game with 57 off 41 balls. Finally, his innings came in a winning cause. The left-handed batter has been among runs and again he is likely to start with an out-of-form Prithvi Shaw at the top. With not many runs behind his back, Shaw is under tremendous pressure. Continuously backed by the team management, Shaw has had a dismal start to IPL 2023, scoring just 47 runs in six matches. The right-handed opener needs runs and he needs it now.

Middle-order:

Mitchell Marsh

Like Shaw, Mitchell Marsh has also struggled to accumulate runs and his form is also a big concern for the team. In the ongoing season so far, Marsh has managed to score just six runs in four games. Despite not being in form with the bat, Marsh has been a consistent performer with the ball for the Capitals. He keeps chipping in with important wickets. However, Delhi would hope to get some runs under his belt as he is one of the key batters of the team.

Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey is the second leading run-scorer for the Capitals with 97 runs in four games, including one half-century which came against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He has been one of the consistent performers for the Delhi-based team. Pandey has wealth of experience playing in the IPL and his experience could play a key role in Hyderabad.

Phil Salt

Having made his first appearance in the cash-rich league in Delhi's last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Phil Salt is likely to retain his spot in the playing eleven. The English wicketkeeper batter fared well with gloves in hand. He was neat with his glovework. However, he failed to make an impact with the bat. Primarily a top-order batter, Salt played in the middle order and when he got the opportunity to bat his innings was cut short by Anukul Roy as he was dismissed for just five runs.

Axar Patel

The vice-captain of the Capitals, Axar Patel hit the winning runs in the last game. He made sure that his team crossed the line and avoided their sixth consecutive loss. The spin-bowling all-rounder made an unbeaten 19 runs off 22 balls with the bat in the run chase. While with the ball, he took two wickets and conceded just 13 runs in the three overs he bowled. Axar will have to perform with the bat and ball if DC wants to win their second game of the season.

Lalit Yadav

Unlike the last year, this year hasn't been fruitful for Lalit Yadav till now. With only 48 runs with the bat while batting in the lower-middle order and one wicket in four IPL games so far, Lalit Yadav has failed to make the most of the opportunities given to him by the team management. There are not many utility cricketers in the Delhi camp which means Lalit will get another opportunity to prove his worth.

Bowlers:

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep put in an excellent performance in the previous assignment as he struck twice and conceded just 15 runs against KKR in the three overs bowled. He got both wickets in the same over and that included the wicket of the well-set Jason Roy. Kuldeep has the knack of taking crucial wickets and he will enjoy bowling to some of the SRH batters like Brook, who is weak against spin bowling. The left-arm wrist spinner would be used in the middle phases of the game.

Anrich Nortje

The South African pacer is the leader of the pace attack. After two disappointing games, he was back at his best against the Knight Riders. With the new ball, he removed KKR's inform batter Venkatesh Iyer and set the tone early in the innings. Heading into this game, Nortje will hope to wreak havoc with his sheer pace. He is more than capable of dismantling SRH's batting line-up on his own. His four overs will be crucial for Delhi and skipper David Warner.

Mukesh Kumar

Playing his first season in the biggest T20 league in the world, Mukesh Kumar has been impressive for the Capitals. The right-arm seamer failed to make an impact in the first two games of the tournament. But he seems to have found his rhythm as the tournament progressed and now has five wickets in five games. He bowled brilliantly against KKR, first in the powerplay, and then executed his Yorkers brilliantly in the death. After that performance, he will retain his place in the team.

Ishant Sharma

Making his return to the IPL arena for the first time since 2019, Ishant Sharma was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant spell as Delhi won this game to get their season up and running. Against KKR, the veteran pacer was in his element and kept KKR in check with a fine spell of 1 for 14 in his three overs in the powerplay. In his second spell, he claimed another wicket and ended with match-winning figures of 2/19 in four overs.
