Prasidh, Shardul Out; Shami, Ishan Return | India's Likely Squad For England Tests

After losing the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings to Australia, India will have a chance to reclaim it when they take on England in the first home series of the World Test Championship Cycle 2023-25. This series will consist of five matches.

India’s last test series against England ended in a 2-2 tie in Birmingham. However, Team India surprised the Joe Root-led England side on their home soil, securing a 2-1 lead after the first four games.

In the recently concluded two-match Test series, Team India tied the series with South Africa by winning the second Test in Cape Town. The visitors lost the first Test match by an innings and 32 runs. However, unlike in South Africa, they are highly expected to dominate the visiting England team in the forthcoming Test series.

There might be some changes in the Indian Team for the upcoming Test series against the Three Lions, especially given that it’ll be played at home.

Prasidh, Shardul to be left out

The Test leg of the South Africa tour was not fruitful for many Indian players, especially the batters. Skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, all had a quiet series. Only KL Rahul and Virat Kohli stood out from the rest. But all these batters are expected to retain their places in the squad.

On the bowling front, after a disappointment series in South Africa, Prasidh Krishna is unlikely to play the upcoming Test series. Even Shardul Thakur is likely to be dropped.

Given the conditions, India will recall the likes of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Both spinners will bolster the spin attack, which will be led by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Mohammed Shami, if declared fit, will walk back into the Test squad. The same goes for experienced seamers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
