Veteran Indian speedster Mohit Sharma starred with the ball for Gujarat Titans, recording sensational bowling figures of three for 25 in the ongoing IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mohit, who once represented Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, has showcased scintillating form for the Titans, scalping 33 wickets in 17 appearances.

The ongoing IPL holds significant importance for the Indian players, with the T20 World Cup squad likely to be picked in the last week of April. In such a scenario, Mohit's impressive run in the tournament has ignited his international comeback talks.

Why could Mohit Sharma be picked for 2024 T20 WC?

Besides his current form, Mohit's ability to hit the deck and bowl cutters makes him a valuable asset in the shortest format.

The veteran pacer, who has represented India in two World Cups, can also bowl back-of-the-hand slow balls to deceive the best in business, particularly in the slog overs.

Furthermore, the World Cup is scheduled in the Caribbean and the United States, where the pitches will be comparatively slower than the regular modern-day tracks.

An all-round seamer like Mohit, who can hit hard lengths, bowl cutters, and slow balls, could be a game-changer on those tracks.

If Mohit gets in, who will India drop?

If Mohit Sharma continues to impress the selectors, he might get a wild card entry into India's World Cup squad, given his ability to play the third seamer's role with perfection.

So, if he gets in, India might drop Mohammed Siraj, given that Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh have been better performers than him recently in the shortest format.

With Bumrah and Arshdeep being the frontrunners to open the bowling, India can add a unique dimension to their bowling attack by including someone like Mohit in their T20 World Cup squad.
