Women's World Cup stars could be in demand at WPL auction [Source: @IDFMAGA/X.com]
The WPL 2026 auction is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet, and a lot of that excitement comes down to players who lit up the recent ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
For instance, Deepti Sharma is someone who has the potential to become the highest-paid player in WPL auction history, as she finished the World Cup as the highest wicket-taker (22 dismissals).
Apart from Deepti Sharma , let's rewind to pick three players who dominated the Women’s World Cup and might shake up the WPL 2026 auction.

Left-arm spin is gold in T20 cricket, and Sophie Ecclestone might just be the most valuable spinner in the world right now.
She finished as the third-highest wicket-taker at the World Cup with 16 wickets at an outstanding average of 14.25.
What makes her release by UP Warriorz so surprising is that she has already shown she can dominate in the WPL .
In the league, she has 36 wickets to her name and has also contributed with the bat, scoring 187 runs at a strike rate of 121.42.
That makes her a rare complete package, someone who can control the middle overs, pick up big wickets, and chip in with handy runs.
In Indian conditions, where slow pitches often decide games, Ecclestone’s value only goes up. Hence, expect teams like Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants to go after the all-rounder.

(Table - Wolvaardt's stats in Women's World Cup and overall WPL)
If teams want stability at the top, they will be lining up for Laura Wolvaardt. The South African captain had a dream ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, scoring a record 571 runs at an average of 71.38 and nearly walking away with the Player of the Tournament award.
Her standout inning was the century in the final held at Navi Mumbai. What makes Wolvaardt so attractive at an auction is her low-risk game. She doesn’t rely on wild shots.
Instead, she builds innings, handles pressure, and allows big hitters around her to play freely. Laura is also a proven leader and a dressing-room positive, something franchises value more than we often realise.
For a new or struggling WPL team such as UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants, she is the perfect foundation player, someone you can trust to deliver consistently across an entire season.

(Table - Litchfield's stats in Women's World Cup and overall WPL)
Phoebe Litchfield represents the future of women’s cricket. The young Australian opener scored 304 runs at an average of 50.67 and a strike rate of 112.18 at the Women’s World Cup, finishing as Australia’s second-highest run-scorer.
Her standout moment was a superb century against India in the semi-final at DY Patil Stadium, a venue expected to host the WPL.
That innings alone showed she can handle pressure and Indian conditions. While her WPL numbers don’t yet reflect her true potential, that has a lot to do with Gujarat Giants’ overall struggles rather than her ability.
She plays spin beautifully and has the temperament to win games single-handedly.
