Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul have been ruled out of the Indian team for the second Test of their five-match series against England. While Jadeja was excluded from India’s 16-member squad owing to a hamstring injury he sustained during the series opener at Hyderabad, Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain.

Their respective absence prompted the BCCI selection committee to bring in a couple of fresh faces into the Indian line-up for the all-important second Test. Washington Sundar also received a surprise call-up to the Indian team after a gap of nearly three years.

After Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were ruled out of the second Test, the BCCI announced Washington Sundar as well as potential debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Saurabh Kumar in the Indian squad as their replacements.

With Team India slipping to a 28-run defeat at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, one can expect the Indian team management to make several changes in the line-up for the all-important second Test.

Domestic stalwart Sarfaraz Khan might well receive his first Test cap by replacing an injured KL Rahul, while Washington Sundar might fill in for Ravindra Jadeja as a like-for-like all-rounder.

Moreover, one can also expect Rajat Patidar to make his Test debut in place of struggling number three batsman Shubman Gill.

Mohammed Siraj, who bowled just 11 overs across both innings of the Hyderabad Test, will likely be replaced by an additional spinner in the form of Kuldeep Yadav. The English contingent also employed just one fast bowler in the series-opener and ended up winning the contest owing to their four-pronged spin attack.

The second India vs England Test match will be played between February 2 and February 6 at the Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
