The Lucknow Super Giants are all set to take on the Punjab Kings in the 11th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). While the Giants will be hunting their first win, PBKS will look for their second to steady their campaign. 

The PBKS has a solid batting order, which can take a toll on any bowling attack on its day. However, taking a hint from last season, on a slowish and sluggish wicket of the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Ravi Bishnoi could be the game changer for the home team. 


Why Ravi Bishnoi is a threat to PBKS?

  • Ravi Bishnoi is different from your regular wrist spinner. He will not toss up the deliveries and invite you to hit on most occasions. Instead, Bishnoi will serve some quick googlies at the good length area to deceive a batter with a leg spin delivery in between. 
  • The middle-order of the Punjab Kings will heavily depend on Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone. Both these batters have shown their susceptibility against wrist spinners. 
  • Bishnoi enjoys bowling at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. He knows the ground well and has a good idea of the areas to bowl. This experience of the spinner will be a threat to the Kings. 


How to handle Bishnoi? 

In the three matches that Bishnoi has played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, he has picked up a wicket every 15 deliveries while conceding 18 runs. His economy has also been an impressive 7.16. This shows that Bishnoi favours bowling at the venue and will significantly threaten the PBKS batters. 

To tackle Bishnoi, it is essential for PBKS that Shikhar Dhawan bats deep. His experience and expertise against the spinners will be a plus for the PBKS. If Dhawan can play most of the 24 deliveries by Bishnoi, then it will minimise the damage for PBKS, while the other batters can bat around him and concentrate on increasing the scoring rate. 

Besides Dhawan batting deep, the other batters should try to use their feet as much as possible against Bishnoi. The prime plan should be to put him off his rhythm and keep him from settling down to a particular line and length.
