India's batting sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, is currently on a record-breaking spree, and he did it once again on Saturday as he eclipsed Virender Sehwag's 16-year-old record for the most Test sixes in a calendar year.

The Mumbai batter, who has been in great form since the start of the series, scored his third Test half-century against England in the fourth Test of their five-match series at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi.

The left-hander hammered England spinner Shoaib Bashir for a towering six over long-on, eclipsing Sehwag's long-standing record. He achieved this remarkable feat in only his fifth match in 2024, compared to Sehwag's 14 games and 27 innings.

Having struck 23 sixes in Test cricket during 2024, Jaiswal has now surpassed Virender Sehwag's 2008 record of 22 sixes and Rishabh Pant's tally from 2022. Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal stand fourth and fifth in this list with 20 and 18 runs, respectively.

Jaiswal currently tops the run-scoring charts in the ongoing Test series between India and England, with two fifties and two double centuries to his name. He joins the elite company of Virat Kohli and Vinod Kambli as only the third Indian to score consecutive double centuries for India.

Meanwhile, India bowled out England for 353 runs in the morning session on Day 2. Joe Root scored an unbeaten 122 off 274 balls while forming a 102-run partnership with Ollie Robinson, who scored a half-century to help the visitors post a competitive total in their first innings. India finished at 219\7 with Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav standing tall.
