The 42nd match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will be played between South Africa and Afghanistan on Friday, November 10 at Narendra Modi stadium Ahmedabad.

This match might be a dead rubber for South Africa, having already secured a spot in the semifinals with six wins out of eight games. However, they enter this game following an embarrassing defeat against India. The Indian bowlers treated their batters in a way no one else has, and now the Proteas are eager to bounce back stronger, heading into the semifinals with high spirits.

On the other hand, Afghanistan team was poised to edge nearer to the semifinals, but a crushing three-wicket defeat against Australia in their most recent match has altered their trajectory. Now facing a must-win scenario, a loss in this game could significantly impact their chances of making it to the top four.

SA vs AFG: Afghanistan's Last Stand with Everything on the Line

The stars have aligned for South Africa in the ongoing World Cup, witnessing a dominant top order and a bowling attack that leaves no room for doubt. Quinton de Kock's outstanding form has bolstered their batting unit, providing a big boost in confidence and leaving opposition bowlers struggling to contain his brilliance.

The middle-order trio of Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, and the impressive Heinrich Klaassen has been a linchpin for South Africa. Their consistent performance in adapting to match situations, accelerating the scoring, and ensuring quick runs has played a pivotal role in the team's success, reflected in their competitive totals.

The pace battery of Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, and Gerald Coetzee has been a major asset for South Africa's bowling department. Keshav Maharaj's stellar form adds depth to the spin section, yet Tabraiz Shamsi appears to have some room for improvement, lacking the desired threat level in the tournament.

On the other hand, Afghanistan has exceeded expectations in the 2023 World Cup, primarily due to their strong bowling, particularly the dynamic spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, and the consistently impressive Noor Ahmed. These bowlers have consistently kept opposition batters under pressure.

With victory within reach against Afghanistan in the last match, the team faced a sudden turn of events as Glenn Maxwell's onslaught threw them into panic mode. The inability to find the right line and length against Maxwell's aggressive batting led to their downfall, ultimately resulting in a three-wicket win for Australia.

While Afghanistan has impressed with their fighting spirit against top teams and a strong bowling performance in the tournament, they face a daunting task against South Africa. The outstanding batting form of the Proteas positions them as clear favourites in this upcoming encounter.
