The Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is up and running in style and in a crucial Group A encounter on Wednesday, 9th of October, India will take on Sri Lanka. The Women in Blue lost their opening game against New Zealand but delivered a strong performance against Pakistan to get their campaign underway. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have lost both their games so far and need to win this one to keep their hopes alive.
India are a stronger team on paper, but Sri Lanka recently beat them in the Women's Asia Cup final, so it is expected to be a close contest. For India, the biggest worry ahead of the clash is the fitness of their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. She hurt her kneck while batting against Pakistan, and there is doubt over her availabilty for the Sri Lanka game. However, given the importance of game, we can expect Harman to risk herself and play this all-important game.
Pooja Vastrakar Set To Sit Out Again
India's bowling has been decent in the tournament so far, but their batting has not been upto the mark, and that is something that would motivate Harmanpreet to play this game. Rest of the team is expected to be same with India likely to continue with Sajeevan Sajana who provides depth with the bat, and can deliver with handy off-breaks as well.
Shreyanka Patil and Asha Shobana will be the two spinners in the squad along with all-rounder Deepti Sharma. Renuka Singh and Arundhati Reddy will look after the pace department with Pooja Vastrakar likely to miss out again. The batting boasts of some experience batters, but if Harmanpreet misses out, Yastika Bhatia could make the cut and bat at number 3.
