GT vs MI: Shubman Gill's 129 Puts Him in List of Legends Comprised of Kohli, ABD, Gayle
Gujarat Titans (GT) had a ball against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Ahmedabad on Friday, thanks to Shubman Gill, who continued with his Midas touch with the ball to slam his third century of the season. The GT opener scored a 60-ball 129, which included ten maximums and seven boundaries, helping the defending champions post an astonishing total of 233/3.
With his third hundred in IPL 2023, Gill surpassed Hashim Amla, KL Rahul, Shane Watson and Shikhar Dhawan - who all smacked two centuries in an IPL season. And he is just behind Virat Kohli (4) and Jos Buttler (4) in terms of the most number of tons in a single IPL edition.
Apart from that, the 23-year-old also went past RCB's Faf du Plessis to bag the orange cap. Now, he has 851 runs at 16 innings, amassing third hundreds and four fifties in the tournament, becoming the second Indian and fourth overall batter to have an 800-plus-run IPL season.
The stylish batter joined the elite list, comprising Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016), Jos Buttler (863 in 2022) and David Warner (848 runs in 2016).
Aside from all those mileposts, he also tonked the seventh-highest individual score in IPL history and bagged the second-highest score by an Indian batter.
