The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), led by Rishabh Pant, have finalised their retentions, player releases, and trades ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. The team will enter the auction with a purse of ₹22.95 crore and six available slots, including four for overseas players.

LSG made some notable moves ahead of the mini-auction. The Lucknow-based franchise acquired Mohammed Shami from Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹10 crore. They also took Arjun Tendulkar from the Mumbai Indians for ₹30 lakh. In the final move, they traded Shardul Thakur to the MI for ₹2.4 crore.

Ahead of the mini-auction, LSG also released a number of players to free up purse space and create flexibility for new signings. In this article, let's take a look a the released players that LSG can target in IPL 2026 mini-auction to fill key gaps in the squad.

Akash Madhwal

  • LSG’s main problem last season was inconsistent bowling, with several fast bowlers facing injuries. While the current bowling unit includes Mayank Yadav, Mohammed Shami (traded in), Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, Digvesh Rathi, and Prince Yadav, the franchise still needs a reliable Indian pace option and a specialist death bowler.
  • Akash Madhwal, who played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, could be the ideal candidate. Though he only played 4 matches, taking 4 wickets at an economy rate of 11.06, his skiddy pace, ability to bowl accurate yorkers, and temperament under pressure make him a perfect fit for LSG’s requirements. Madhwal’s skills at the death could provide the stability LSG lacked last season.

Abhinav Manohar

  • LSG’s middle order struggled in IPL 2025 despite having a strong top order. With David Miller released, the team is looking for a reliable finisher who can stabilise innings and accelerate when needed.
  • Abhinav Manohar can be a good option for LSG. Taking a look at his overall T20 stats, he has played 50 matches and made 790 runs at the strike rate of 143.63 and an average of 28.21. In IPL 2025, Manohar has played 8 matches and made 61 runs at an average of 12.20.

  • His role as a lower-middle-order batter makes him a good candidate to provide depth and balance. Investing in Manohar would help LSG to rebuild strong middle order.

  • Ahead of IPL 2026, LSG will need a spin-bowling all-rounder who can contribute with the bat in pressure situations. Wanindu Hasaranga fits this requirement perfectly.
  • With Ravi Bishnoi released, LSG can target the Sri Lankan star for his accurate leg-spin and ability to hit in the lower order. Hasaranga could complement Digvesh Rathi, forming a potentially deadly spin duo. He also adds value as a finisher, allowing the team flexibility in the batting order.

Glenn Maxwell

  • LSG have four overseas slots to fill and need high-impact multi-dimensional players. One potential target for LSG could be Glenn Maxwell, recently released by Punjab Kings after a disappointing IPL 2025 season.
  • Despite scoring only 48 runs in six innings and taking 4 wickets at an economy of 27.50, Maxwell’s experience, explosive batting, and ability to bowl spin make him a valuable asset . A player like Maxwell can strengthen the lower-middle order while contributing as a bowler, solving dual problems for the franchise.
