We are inching closer towards the IPL 2024 playoffs with each passing day. Although Kolkata Knight Riders have qualified for the playoffs, the competition is quite intense for the remaining three slots. 

Despite losing four straight games, Rajasthan Royals are still quite ahead of their competitors, occupying the second position with eight victories in thirteen games. So, the real battle is going on between CSK, SRH, DC and RCB, who are fighting for the remaining two spots. 

Talking about Chennai Super Kings, the Men in Yellow are currently placed third in the IPL 2024 standings with fourteen points to their name. Despite being placed over SRH, DC and RCB, the Super Kings might miss out on the playoffs if some results don't go their way. 


How can CSK miss out on IPL 2024 playoffs?

CSK will conclude the group stage with a high-voltage face-off against RCB, who would be desperate for a win to stay alive in the combination. 

If CSK lose the game by more than 18 runs (while scoring 200 runs) or concede a win with 11 balls remaining (while defending 200 runs), they will have an inferior net run rate than the Royal Challengers. 

In this scenario, CSK's hopes for a playoff spot would also hinge on Sunrisers Hyderabad's performance. If Sunrisers lose both their games, it would limit their points to 14, providing a window of opportunity for CSK. 

So, RCB, CSK and SRH will be on 14 points, with things coming down to their NRR. CSK would hope their NRR reads more than that of the rest, or else they will be eliminated.
