To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the 14th season of Australia's premier T20 tournament, the Big Bash League, is all set to commence on December 15. Eight extremely competitive sides- Adelaide Strikers, Perth Scorchers, Brisbane Heat, Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades- will battle it out across 44 matches, including four playoff fixtures, for the coveted trophy.

Talking about Brisbane Heat, they enjoyed stellar success last season, emerging as the winners of BBL 13. Led by Nathan McSweeney, the Heat defeated the Sixers in the final to clinch the BBL trophy. Can they defend their title this year? Let's analyse and find out.

Strengths Of Brisbane Heat For BBL 14

Incredible Bowling Attack

To lead their pace attack, Brisbane Heat has three high-quality fast bowlers- Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson and Michael Neser. All these bowlers are genuine wicket-takers who can win matches on their own if they get going.

Meanwhile, unlike most of the BBL teams, the Heat have a formidable spin bowling unit comprising Matthew Kuhnemann and Mitchell Swepson, who can bamboozle the batters with their guile in the middle overs. So, Brisbane Heat's superb bowling attack is definitely their biggest strength.

The All-Round Prowess Of Paul Walter And Michael Neser

Paul Walter and Michael Neser are the two most valuable players in the Heat's squad, thanks to their incredible all-round attributes. Besides being effective in the middle and death overs, Paul Walter's ability to hit a long ball makes him the Heat's MVP. On a similar note, Neser has single-handedly won plenty of matches for the defending champions and could play a massive role this season.

Weaknesses Of Brisbane Heat For BBL 14

Lack Of Aggressive Batters

Brisbane Heat will likely rely on their bowlers to succeed in the BBL 14, as they don't have too many impactful batters in their lineup. Josh Brown, who was exceptional last season, shifted his base to Melbourne Renegades.

In such a scenario, the Heat will massively depend on the 37-year-old Colin Munro for acceleration purposes, with the likes of Renshaw, Bryant and Peirson batting around him. Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne will be available after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but they have to hang around in the playoffs race until then.
