After securing historic series wins in Australia and South Africa, Pakistan are gearing up for a home Tri-Series, which will be their final dress rehearsal for the all-important Champions Trophy. Interestingly, the Men in Green, who will play the tournament as hosts, have yet to release their Champions Trophy 2025 squad.

With in-form opener Saim Ayub struggling with an ankle injury, several reports have claimed that Pakistan might bring the likes of Shan Masood back into the ODI setup. Apart from the Test skipper, the Men in Green might consider recalling a few other forgotten players, as mentioned below.

Shadab Khan

  • Pakistan's premier spin-bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan was axed from the ODI team following his prolonged rough patch in the 50-over format. The leg spinner, who can hit a long ball lower down the order, has amassed 855 runs while scalping 85 wickets in 70 ODI matches.
  • With Pakistan lacking depth in their middle order, they might reward Shadab Khan for his all-round ability and recall him for the Champions Trophy. The 26-year-old has plenty of experience and can bring immense value to the table in the mega event.

Imam-ul-Haq

  • Pakistan's ace opener Imam-ul-Haq played his final ODI against South Africa during the World Cup back in 2023. However, the experienced batter has incredible numbers in 50-over cricket, scoring 3138 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 82.55.
  • As Saim Ayub is struggling with fitness issues and Abdullah Shafique enduring a slump in his batting form, Pakistan might recall the batter for the Champions Trophy event.

Usama Mir

  • Pakistan's talented spinner Usama Mir was impressive with the ball during his brief stint with the ODI team. Mir, who can bamboozle the batters with his guile and variations, has bagged 15 wickets in 12 ODI matches.
  • Although Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem have grabbed eyeballs with some magnificent spells in recent times, they have played only five ODIs combined. So, considering their inexperience and the spin-friendly tracks at home, the hosts might recall Usama Mir, who has featured in 58 List-A games, scalping 86 wickets.
