Summary of participating teams: India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka

The stage is set for a cricketing spectacle of unparalleled proportions as news breaks that six formidable teams are geared up for Asia Cup 2023. Embracing the One Day International (ODI) format, this Asia Cup is poised to captivate the cricketing fraternity. The reigning champion, Sri Lanka, is primed to defend their title after clinching victory in the 2022 edition.

The 16th edition of the Asia Cup is slated to launch from August 30 to September 17. Pakistan and Sri Lanka are working together to host it. Originally, it was supposed to be in 2021, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it got delayed.

The Asia Cup is a big deal in international cricket. It started back in 1983 when the Asian Cricket Council was formed. Teams from ACC member countries play it every few years. They've had 15 editions so far, starting in 1984 and the most recent one in 2022. They had to skip 1993 due to issues between Pakistan and India. In 2008, they decided to play it every two years.

This time, Nepal is joining the Asia Cup for the first time. While countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are already top cricket teams, Nepal had to earn their spot by competing in the 2023 ACC Men's Premier Cup.

India is the most successful team in Asia Cup history, winning it six times, including the first one in 1984 and the most recent in 2018. They've played 49 matches in the Asia Cup, winning 31. Sri Lanka comes next with 34 wins. Since 2021, Rohit Sharma, as the captain of India, has led the team to victory once in the 22 matches he has played as skipper. In the absence of the prolific Kohli, Rohit took charge and steered the Indian team to secure their seventh Asia Cup triumph against Bangladesh. Under Rohit, India has maintained a perfect record, winning all five matches played at the Asia Cup.

Here's a list of Asia Cup winners: Teams have played 15 times in total. India has won it 7 times, where won Sri Lanka 6 times and Pakistan 2 times. Sri Lanka has reached the final 12 times, while India made it 10 times. Bangladesh hasn't won it yet but they've reached the final 3 times.

Apart from India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, no other country has won the Asia Cup. Bangladesh has reached the final 3 times, but unfortunately, they couldn't secure a win on any occasion.

The event was eventually won by India, who defeated Sri Lanka in a one-sided final. It was a breath-taking spell from Mohammed Siraj that stole the show in the finals. As a result, India won a record 8th Asia Cup title.
