Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Scott Styris has made a one-of-a-kind pledge: he'll stop wearing the RCB jersey only when the iconic Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star AB de Villiers wears the CSK jersey at least once this IPL season. This unusual arrangement stemmed from De Villiers' jest that Styris was jinxing RCB by donning their jersey.

The Styris-De Villiers bet

The bet was made before the match between RCB and Punjab Kings (PBKS), with the terms stating that if PBKS won, AB de Villiers would have to wear a CSK jersey. Conversely, if RCB won, Styris would have to wear the RCB jersey for the rest of the season. As fate would have it, RCB emerged victorious, leaving Styris to don the RCB jersey for the remainder of the season. Since then, RCB has struggled to secure victories.

Scott Styris, often seen in the RCB jersey during matches, has now become associated with bad luck for the team. 

In response to Styris' pledge, de Villiers humorously commented, "Please stop wearing that shirt immediately!!!!"

Styris responded: "I said I would wear the shirt. It has been a bad omen. I am a bad mascot for RCB, which is pleasing from my perspective. So I am prepared to put out a challenge back to AB de Villiers because he says it's time for me to stop wearing the shirt. I will stop wearing the shirt for RCB matches moving forward if De Villiers wears the CSK shirt once. He is coming back for The Insiders (Jio Cinema's programme) for the last week of the playoffs."

RCB's sole win in IPL 2024 came against PBKS, with losses in six out of seven matches played thus far. Should this string of defeats persist, their hopes of reaching the playoffs will diminish.
