'Players Go Blank...': Sehwag Takes 'Brutal Dig' At RCB's Weakness

In a high-scoring and thrilling match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, the 'Orange Army' clinched a comprehensive 25-run victory.

The Faf du Plessis-led side has had a disheartening start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition, with six defeats in 7 matches and is placed 10th in the points table.

It is too early to look at the possibility of RCB making it to the playoffs, but mathematically, it is still possible for the franchise to make it into the playoffs only on terms and conditions. They have to win remaining all of their fixtures and also depend on the outcomes of other teams.

Virender Sehwag talks about RCB's weakness

The former Indian star batter, Virender Sehwag, tried to showcase and identify the flaws of the RCB as a franchise.

"If you have 12-15 Indian players, just 10 overseas and your entire staff is made of foreigners, that's an issue. Only a few of them are international players, rest are all Indians and half of them don't even understand English. How will you motivate them? Who spends time with them? Who talks to them? I can't see a single Indian staff member. At least there should be someone who the players can confide in," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

RCB boasts about its international support staff filled with Andy Flower as the head coach and Adam Griffith as the bowling coach.

In such a situation, Sehwag feels that RCB needs to bring some Indian coaches and personalities into their team to develop a good playing environment for the local players.

"Players need a comfort level which they are not getting presently. Players go blank in front of captain Faf du Plessis because if he asks something, they will have to answer. If the leader is Indian, you can share what's going through your mind. But if you do that to an overseas player, you may be left out of the Playing XI in the next game. RCB need at least 2-3 Indian support staff."

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play its next fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21, 2024, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
