In a significant development, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star overseas pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been granted an extension to participate in the ongoing IPL 2024 by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) before he fulfills his national commitments.

BCB grants extension to Fizz

The BCB extended the deadline by one day after initially requesting Mustafizur to return by April 30. However, considering CSK's match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 1, they have agreed to extend his availability by an additional day following requests from the BCCI and the Chennai team management.

"We had given Mustafizur leave to play in the IPL until April 30, but since Chennai has a match on May 1, we have extended his leave by a day upon receiving requests from Chennai and the BCCI,"  said Shahriar Nafees, BCB's deputy manager of cricket operations, according to ESPNCricinfo.

Before Mustafizur returns to Bangladesh, the five-time IPL winners will play four IPL matches. CSK is scheduled to face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Following this, they will take on the same opponents at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 23.

In their next two matches, CSK will host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings at home on April 28 and May 1, respectively.

The Fizz is currently enjoying a stellar season in the IPL, having claimed 10 wickets in five matches at an average of 18.3. The conditions at Chepauk have proven to be ideal for his style of bowling. CSK will miss his services badly given the way he has fared so far this season.
