Massive Blow For CSK Before MI Clash, Head Coach Hints At Unavailability Of 'This' Player

Match 29 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will see Mumbai Indians play against Chennai Super Kings in a highly-anticipated clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on April 14, 2024. 

Ahead of this much-awaited clash of 'El Clasico of IPL', Chennai Super Kings Head Coach Stephen Fleming in a pre-match conference hinted about the availability of the star bowler of Chennai Matheesha Pathirana. 

The 21-year-old Sri Lankan slinger faced a hamstring injury during the second T20I against Bangladesh in Sylhet, but he has played a couple of games this season. 

Now, CSK ace death bowler could miss the highly anticipated Clash against Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians(MI) on Sunday. 


Head Coach Hinted About The Availability Of Matheesha Pathirana

In a pre-match conference, Stephen Fleming updated about the availability of the young fast bowler and said that though the injury is not as bad the importance of a fast bowler with the calibre of Pathirana is important for such a vital game. 

Matheesha Pathirana was not available for the matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). 

"It (Pathirana's niggle) was not as bad as what we had thought, so we are very hopeful that if not tomorrow, then very close. We know the importance of him in games like this, but we will make sure he is 100 per cent in this form," Fleming told reporters ahead of the game.

Chennai Super Kings, led by newly appointed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, is placed in the third spot in the points table winning three games in five matches. 

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians appointed Hardik Pandya as its new captain for IPL 2024 and had a disappointing start in the cash-rich league. 

Mumbai Indians has faced defeat in three consecutive fixtures in the initial stage of the IPL, but has bounced back and is gaining momentum winning their last two matches against Delhi Capitals( by 29 runs) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 7 wickets.
