Dinesh Karthik has revealed the actual reason behind Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel not featuring for India in T20 World Cup 2022.

India, who are now working on the mindset of making their batting line-up deep decided to not give chances to Chahal and Harshal during the showpiece event.

With Ravichandran Ashwin's calm presence at the crease against Pakistan and Axar Patel's proven usefulness with the bat, it did not leave enough room for both players to fit in the XI.

After India were handed a humbling loss by England in the semi-finals, questions were raised by the fans and fraternity on the selection policy of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.

However, a recent interview of Karthik on Cricbuzz has realized the fans that the team management was very clear with their choices of players.

According to Karthik, Chahal and Harshal Patel were already intimated by the management that they will play only if the conditions favour them, otherwise have to warm the benches.

"At the start of the tournament, they were told that under these conditions, we would be playing you; otherwise, it might be difficult. So, they were very aware and were preparing in such a way that when they get an opportunity, they would try and do their best, but there might be a chance that they ended up not playing."

Chahal and Harshal will be seen donning Blues in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand, and will look to stake a claim for a permanent place in the XI.
