Former England captain Eoin Morgan acknowledged the impact of Australia's wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey on Day 2. With Australia ending the day at 311/5, trailing England by 82 runs, Morgan credited Carey as the difference-maker.

Carey displayed prowess in his first Ashes series on English soil by scoring a brisk fifty. Joining the crease at a challenging score of 220/5, he showcased his credibility with a positive approach. His counterattacking play against the new ball proved vital in shifting the momentum in Australia's favour.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Morgan expressed that it had been Australia's day and highlighted Carey's contribution. Carey played a crucial role, scoring an unbeaten 52 off 80 balls, including seven boundaries and a six. He formed a vital partnership of 91 runs with opener Usman Khawaja, who also notched his first century on English soil and ended the day unbeaten on 126 off 279 deliveries, featuring 14 boundaries and two sixes.

Morgan emphasized the outstanding late impetus provided by Khawaja and Carey. He acknowledged that it was expected for an Australian player to grind out runs on such a pitch, but he particularly praised the momentum they generated leading up to the introduction of the new ball.

"It has undeniably been Australia's day. If I had to choose, I would rather be in Australia's changing room right now, and for me, the difference has been Carey,"  remarked Eoin Morgan.

He concluded by commending the outstanding performance of Khawaja and Carey, recognizing the impact they had in driving the team's momentum during the latter stages of the day.

"You always expect an Australian to grind out some runs on this wicket. That impetus late on in the day and leading momentum into when the new ball came in from Khawaja and Carey was outstanding," Morgan added.

The impact of Carey's performance cannot be overstated, as it played a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of Day 2. Morgan's recognition of Carey's contributions highlights the significance of his batting display and its impact on the overall match dynamics.
