Aakash Chopra trolls Bangladesh [Source: @sujan_majhi/X.com]
When the World Test Championship chatter starts doing the rounds, one name that never seems to pop up is Bangladesh. And Aakash Chopra, a cricketer turned commentator, gave a good reason for that. The former Indian cricketer, never one to mince words, has bluntly stated that the Bangla Tigers aren't even in the conversation for the 2027 WTC final.
Currently languishing at fifth in the standings with a meagre 16.67% points after their 1-0 loss to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh's Test credentials came under Chopra's scanner in his latest YouTube dissection.
Chopra Brutally Bashes Bangladesh As WTC Mace Contenders
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra bashed the Bangladesh team for never reaching the final as he discussed other teams as contenders for the title.
"I won't even talk about Bangladesh because you don't reach at all. You don't even come in the list. People start looking at getting points when they play against Bangladesh, especially when Bangladesh are touring. Bangladesh trouble people at home for sure," Chopra said.
Notably, the numbers back his claims as Bangladesh have never qualified for a WTC final, finishing seventh last cycle with just 31.25% points.
While Chopra noted that Bangladesh might trouble visitors at home, he also acknowledged the fact that the Bangla Tigers will be bashed by South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka.
"Their away series are against Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. They will host England, the West Indies and Pakistan. They can trouble England, Pakistan and the West Indies. They might compete against Sri Lanka (they have lost the series 1-0). They will get hammered in Australia and South Africa. They might not come close to qualification again," Chopra observed.
Chopra Backs Sri Lanka's Golden Chance
In stark contrast, Chopra was almost cheerful discussing Sri Lanka's prospects.
"Sri Lanka flatter to deceive. Their home series are against India, South Africa and Bangladesh. Their schedule is excellent because their away tours are to New Zealand, the West Indies and Pakistan. You should do well in the West Indies and Pakistan. Sri Lanka actually have decent chances. I feel Sri Lanka's chances of qualifying are better than South Africa's," Chopra concluded.
With South Africa securing the WTC 2025 mace, the next championship only heightens the excitement for a new winner. However, whether Bangladesh joins the big boys' table or not remains a big question.
