Dhruv Jurel's "likely" Test debut for Team India in Rajkot against England would be a proud moment for the rising young wicketkeeper-batter, who said if he dons the special cap with the third Test, he will be dedicating it to his parents, especially his father.

Jurel, the Uttar Pradesh wicketkeeper and elegant batter, is grateful for his parents' sacrifices and thankful to his father for letting him pursue cricket and his dream to represent the country after initial hesitations.

Even as Jurel's mother was always keen for the son to play the sport and even sold her gold chain to buy him his academy kit, his father Nem Singh Jurel, a Kargil war veteran, was reluctant as he wanted his ward to secure his livelihood with a government job.

Dhruv Jurel To Dedicate Test Cap To Father

"If I get the India cap, I would like to dedicate this to my father because he is my hero. Whenever I feel confused, I will talk to him. He guides me. He is my hero," Jurel told BCCI in an interview after Times of India reported the youngster is "likely" to make his Test debut in Rajkot.

Jurel had earlier revealed his father didn't change his stance until he saw him smash the Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowling attack on his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) last year. But the Kargil veteran remains a source of inspiration and great support for his son.

After making his Ranji Trophy in the year 2022, Jurel has made rapid strides in first-class cricket. Identified as one of the enticing wicketkeeper-batter options, the 23-year-old has played 15 first-class matches and made 790 runs at an average of 46.47.

He could be replacing the struggling KS Bharat behind the stumps for India with the challenging Test series levelled 1-1.
