On December 8, Indian captain Rohit Sharma explained why the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to ban fans from watching Team India’s practice sessions.

Rohit clarified that practice sessions are private, and the team wants to avoid any interruptions or distractions. He emphasized the importance of maintaining confidentiality, especially since players discuss strategies and game plans during these sessions.

What Led to the Ban?

For those unfamiliar, the decision came after fans made inappropriate comments toward players during a practice session in Adelaide. The incident occurred ahead of the pink-ball Test during India’s tour of Australia. The open nets session led to chaos, with some members of the crowd reportedly passing insensitive remarks. This prompted the BCCI to ban fans from attending practice sessions to ensure a focused and respectful environment for the players.

In a press conference, Rohit shared his perspective on the matter:

"You know, the net sessions are very private, and this was the first time ever I saw so many people during the nets. And when you're training, when you're practising, there are a lot of conversation that happens, and those conversations are very private. We don't want anyone to hear those conversations. It is as simple as that because there's a lot of planning," Rohit said in the press conference.

He also lightheartedly suggested that fans can still watch the team during Test matches

"There's a lot of talking that happens. And the crowds are very close to that practice facility. There are five days of Test cricket. They can come and watch us there," he said.

India Need To Win Remaining Test Matches Against AUS

After Australia’s dominant ten-wicket victory over India in the second Test at Adelaide, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is tied at 1-1. Australia has reclaimed the top spot in the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship standings.

India now faces a tough challenge: they must win the remaining three Tests in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney to keep their hopes alive for reaching their third consecutive WTC final, set to take place at Lord’s.
