The 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup has nearly drawn to a close with India and Australia slated to face each other one last time in the World Cup final on November 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This will be the second World Cup final clash between the two sides since the 2003 edition which saw India bow down to Australia by a crushing 125 runs.

Ahead of the do-or-die World Cup final clash, former English off-spinner Graeme Swann highlighted some glaring weaknesses of the Aussie batters whilst facing spin and spoke at length about how it can hinder their performance.

During an interaction with CNN News 18, Swann stated that the unbeaten Indian side has been remarkably flawless and has not shown any apparent signs of weakness. But at the same time, he also indicated that Australia on the other hand has been vulnerable against facing spin.

"It's very natural to hold those demons inside when you have lost to a team. This Indian side haven't shown any weaknesses throughout this tournament. Australia have shown glaring weaknesses against spin."

During Australia’s WC opener match in Chennai, the Indian spinners featuring the likes of Jadeja and Kuldeep wreaked havoc with the ball and registered six scalps in total to restrict Australia to just 199. The five-time champions ended up with a below-par score which India chased down with relative ease by 6 wickets.

Their struggles against spin continued further when they took on the Proteas during the second semi-final match at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. Despite getting off to an electrifying start which saw Australia plunder 60 runs in only 6 overs, the spinners were able to stem the flow of runs and made it difficult for the Australian batters to operate freely.

"Even against South Africa in the last game, they squeaked home, they didn't dominate the game. Only chasing 212, they nearly made a hash of it. Australia have limped into the final whereas India have skipped and cartwheeled their way into the final."

As the countdown to the high-octane battle begins, the Men in Blue will seek to settle scores and avenge their loss against the Aussies in the 2003 World Cup final.
