The Punjab Kings (PBKS) finally broke their four-game losing streak as they crushed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in some fashion. Thanks to Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh's efforts, PBKS created history after chasing down a record total (262) in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After putting KKR in to bat first, PBKS conceded a mammoth 261/6, courtesy Sunil Narine and Phil Salt, who tore apart the Punjab attack. With a daunting task in front of PBKS openers, Prabhsimran Singh started with

On the other hand, Bairstow, who had just scored 96 runs in his six innings so far in this season didn't look back from there on and went on to carry the bat whilst scoring a Player of the Match worthy 108*(48). Shashank also scored an incredible 68*(28) to compliment the overseas star.

Bairstow speaks after historic win

Reviewing his ton in the post-match interview, he also credited Prabhsimran for his valiant effort and stressed on how important it was to take risks.

"We got off to a good start. Prabh started the innings very nicely there which was the key. They got off to a flier themselves, Salty and Sunil. So, we knew we had to go ballistic in the powerplay. We took some risks and they came off."

On the importance of form in this [T20] format, risk-taking and chasing such big scores, Bairstow talked about the hit-and-miss nature of the format.

"Not really [important, the form]. In such huge chases, sometimes you have to take risks, sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn't. [In such chases] Mindset is to whack it as far as possible. If it's in your area then you have to go. We actually had a couple of quiet overs against Sunil. He is important to them, losing as fewer wickets as we can to him is imperative to chases like that," Bairstow added.

Bairstow also lauded Shashank Singh's calm when he cam on to bat and how good he has been all season.

Up next, PBKS will visit the Chepauk to take on the defending champions, CSK on Wednesday, May 1.
