The first win of the season for Delhi Capitals (DC) came against the high-flying Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Vizag, where they overpowered the defending champions by 20 runs and added two crucial points to their tally in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad found the batters' inability to find big overs in their innings after they lost wickets at the start to be the problem. Delhi batted first and posted 191 on the board on the back of excellent performances from David Warner and skipper Rishabh Pant.

However, the game changed in the second innings when Khaleel Ahmed's swing movement at the start was no match for Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj, who departed early. After that, CSK tried to recover rather than get closer to the target.

Batting in the middle was more challenging for the Chennai side as DC pacers executed their plans perfectly, halting CSK to just 171, and all thanks to former CSK skipper MS Dhoni scoring a breathtaking 16-ball 37* at the death to take them this closer to the total.

Ruturaj blames the batters

In the post-match presentation, Gaikwad expressed that they could have scored big in the middle overs, which would have helped their cause.

"At the halfway stage, I felt it was gettable. But after 3-4 overs, there was extravagant seam movement and we were just catching up. We didn’t get big overs of 10 or 15 runs and as a result, we felt short,"

However, he was still optimistic going ahead and praised their bowlers for keeping the opposition to a decent total in this match.

"After two games, you can expect the third game to go against you . To finish on the losing side by 20 runs, it was about two or three hits and our bowlers also did a decent job."

CSK will now have the opportunity to get back to winning ways when they face SunRisers Hyderabad on 5th April in Hyderabad.
