Indian captain Rohit Sharma roared back into form by fleshing out a dynamic 121-run knock against Afghanistan in the third T20I of their three-match series in Bengaluru. The dashing opening batsman pounded 11 boundaries and eight sixes, and led his side’s recovery with a 190-run partnership with hard-hitting radical Rinku Singh.

While his monumental effort steered India to a monumental 212-run total upfront, it took his side two different sets of Super Overs to eventually prevail in the high-scoring thriller and complete a 3-0 routing of their guests.

After the match, captain Sharma shared his experience of Bengaluru’s see-saw affair, and also praised young guns Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube for their series-winning performances across the three games.

Rohit Sharma evokes IPL 2020 memories with AFG tie

Rohit Sharma, who was part of a double Super-Over thriller for Mumbai Indians back in IPL 2020, recalled his past memories after India’s third T20I against Afghanistan lasted 44 overs. The cricketer also acknowledged the challenging situation they were put in through the contest, and expressed his excitement of getting a win in the end. While speaking during the post-match presentation, he said:

“It was incredible. This was not possible in Tests, it happened in IPL. But it was great game and good to get the win. We challenged ourselves and put us in tough situations and glad to get the win in the end.”

Rohit Sharma also praised Rinku Singh and ‘Player of the Series’ award winner Shivam Dube for their match-defining performances throughout India’s three-game rubber against Afghanistan. Sharma further acknowledged his own return to form after he had succumbed to successive ducks in the first two matches at Mohali and Indore. The Indian captain added:

“Rinku Singh is a great cricketer. He keeps close and shows his game plan. He has shown great improvement and has carried on from the IPL. I am happy with my performance, but glad we got the win in the end. Rinku Singh was the breakout star and so was Shivam Dube.”

Rohit Sharma will now lead Team India in a five-match Test series against the visiting Englishmen. The first match is set to commence from January 25 onwards in Hyderabad.
