Pandya was sensational with the bat & ball for India in the WC (X)
After an extraordinarily challenging season in IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya turned his fortunes around while wearing the blue jersey of the Indian team, helping to end an 11-year title drought at the T20 World Cup in Barbados.
The Indian team first celebrated in Delhi before heading to Mumbai, a city that had been a source of distress for Pandya during the IPL.
However, when Pandya emerged from Mumbai airport with the World Cup in his hand, he was met with applause. During the victory parade on an open-top bus with his teammates, he received a warm reception from fans, returning as a World Cup hero.
The Indian team documented Pandya's redemption story in their latest video on social media.
Pandya himself shared a video from the bus, holding the trophy, on his social media handles. He included a heartfelt caption, thanking the fans and the city of Mumbai for their support.
Despite a difficult IPL 2024 season as the captain of the Mumbai Indians, the 30-year-old became one of the key figures in India's World Cup triumph.
Pandya’s stellar performances in the T20 World Cup earned him the title of the number one-ranked all-rounder. He finished the tournament with 144 runs at a strike rate of over 150 and took 11 wickets.
After Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20Is, Pandya is widely expected to succeed the veteran opener as India's next T20I captain.
